This community outreach supports the Grauer Back-to-School Project that serves students in the Ida B. Wells school cluster with backpacks, school supplies and more (primarily elementary students).
We were “charged” with collecting 160 boxes of 24 crayons each and 325 Pink Pearl erasers. We also volunteered to spearhead the purchasing of 350 backpacks (most of which St. Luke paid for). Not only were we able to meet the Grauer “ask,” but together we were able to exceed it with 192 boxes of 24 crayons each and 325 Pink Pearl erasers! Additionally, a member obtained a grant and did a match to make purchases! There were cash donations of $500.
All told, our group was able to secure over 50
backpack donations from members (some still
straggling in) and a donation of 30 from City
Liquidators (go shop there!), and the total cost to St. Luke for backpacks went down to about $950 (as opposed to last year at $4,800).
Give thanks to God for laying on our hearts the
desire to help with this project! We continue to be small but mighty!!!
